The Dahme-Seen lake district to the south-east of Berlin is a holiday and getaway destination traditionally popular with visitors from near and far.
Stretches of forest, moorland, meadows and fields offer opportunities for walking, cycling, Nordic walking or riding through a smoothly undulating landscape whose views can be enjoyed without undue exertion.
The Dahme and Hofjagdweg cycle paths are the best-known cycle tours through Dahmeland. They both link the S-Bahn network between Berlin Treptow-Köpenick and Königs Wusterhausen to lovely regions in the Dahme-Heideseen nature park and in the Spreewald.
In the south of the region the 66-lake hiking trail skirts the Dahme-Seen district. This 370 km, 17-day trail leads through Brandenburg, around Berlin. The section in the south of the Dahme-Seen region is one of the loveliest on the trail.
The Dahme-Seen Nordic Walking park offers pure recreational activity. With over 30 routes – well signposted and described – it has something for everyone, from beginners to experienced Nordic Walking pros.
You can experience an enjoyable form of recreational activity on the handcar railway linking Königs Wusterhausen with the farming town of Mittenwalde, Motzen Lake and the Mark village of Töpchin.
Balloon rides, golf and riding are a few more of the region’s leisure attractions.
The range of attractions for children and young people is particularly extensive. Kids can do sport, swim or simply let off steam in the children’s “Am Frauensee” and “Am Hölzernen See” recreational centres.
With the A-10 Centre in Wildau and the lively Bahnhofstrasse in Königs Wusterhausen, visitors to our region are spoiIt for choice when it comes to shopping.
Königs Wusterhausen has two special attractions: the castle with its interesting exhibition on the life of the Soldier King, and the birthplace of German radio with the museum on the Funkerberg.
The 590-square kilometre Dahme-Heideseen nature park was opened in 1998. Situated thirty kilometres south-east of Berlin’s gates, it is a truly “local” recreation area. The park can be enjoyed all year round, whether in quiet contemplation or sporting activity, walking, cycling, on horseback or on the water.
